The South Lake Tahoe house used in the 1992 movie "The Bodyguard", starring Kevin Costner and the late diva, Whitney Houston, is for sale, as reported by Realtor.
Known also as the Tallac house because of Mt. Tallac's peak seen over the lake, the house is attached to a 76-foot-long pier as shown in the movie, while Costner was saving a boy before a boat explodes. The listing price for the 3,000 sq. ft. home, which can only be accessed by a curved, private road through the woods, is $7,995,000, noted Realtor.
The all-wood home sitting on three acres of land, was reportedy first bought by Mansfield Smith, a pioneering ear doctor, who died December last year. Smith was said to enjoy his waterfront property as a relaxing getaway for many years. He commissioned Paul Hamilton, a locally famous architect, to build this lakeside property in 1970.
During Smith's stay at his retreat house, he reportedly founded a volunteer fire department.
Doug Rosner, the broker handling the sale and member of the Chase International, said of the house, "It's really spectacular."
"There is no Sheetrock. There are wood floors, wood walls, wood beams, and wood vaulted ceilings," Rosner added. He says an interesting feauture of the home is the blending of its exterior with nature, and even mirrors the designs of the distinguished architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.
Realtor described the house as an "insanely ornate, all-wood" home, while Rosner described it as "a very woodsy area."
What makes this Tallac house standout from the modern and luxurious mansions being built in Lake Tahoe is its "rustic, craftsman" appeal, as pointed out by Rosner.
The home's "woodsy" vibe complemented with its "rustic" artistry could be seen in its huge carved double doors, rough log at the bottom of the stairs, customized bedroom furnishing, and the driftwood over the "mantel of the the floor-to-ceiling granite fireplace," which showcases the beauty of its natural setting outside.
All five bedrooms also give a magnificent view of Fallen Leaf Lake, said the broker.
Aside from the multi-awarded hit movie, "The Bodyguard", which theme song "I Will Always Love You" made phenomenal success, the Tallac estate also appeared in the 1998 blockbuster movie "City of Angels", starring Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage, says Realtor.
