If you are planning to work on a remodeling project for your beloved kitchen space this year, you might as well go for a contemporary design, which is pretty much the latest fad in 2015, according to the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA).
You may not want to confuse yourself between the modern and the contemporary designs. The latter not only gives off a modern touch for the most part, it also manifests dynamism or flexibility in design as opposed to the strictly-abiding nature of its counterpart.
Here are some of the contemporary kitchen trends in 2015 for your inspiration.
Make your kitchen smarter
The electronic features of the kitchen used to be the most basic of cooking appliances and a wall-mounted LCD television. But people these days are big on gadgets so it's important to consider incorporating some docking or charging stations in the area, says Freshome.
Today, you will also be surprised to know that there's already a voice-activated outdoor grill and a wi-fi -enabled coffee machine. There are also a lot of options available to make your work in the kitchen simpler and more precise, with the touch of a button from your smartphone or tablets. It's up to you to choose which option suits your preferences and makes the cooking space of your home look smarter.
Go lustrous with metallic designs
There is another set of metallic materials that you can choose from this year, and definitely an upgrade from the more commonly used silver, chrome, and stainless steel. Interior designer Greg Natale, via Forbes, recommend the use of warmer metals like gold, copper, and bronze.
"Metallics in all their forms were prominent at [Paris design fair Maison & Objet], from copper to bronze to gorgeous gold, and I'm a fan," Natale says. "The texture and gleaming finish of metallics provide a stunning accent to most palette choices."
Create a more user-friendly space
Gone are the days when some corners of the kitchen merely function as aesthetics. According to the NKBA, there should be an inclination in the design towards better user experience, with easy maintenance and accessibility in mind.
Sydney kitchen designer Kesha Pillay of Art of Kitchens told Forbes that kitchen trends lately are into the use of open shelving, which gives you that airy feel and convenience in functionality, while generating a more personalized appeal.
Opt for trendy kitchen pieces
The NKBA says that some of the hottest design trends this 2015 involves your choices when it comes to some kitchen items and fixtures. To keep up, they recommend the use of European-inspired cabinetry and the use of multiples appliances in the area like a dishwasher and a dishwasher drawer, or the addition of a refrigerator/freezer.
Steam ovens are trendy this year, NKBA added. And, the switch from the use of standard kitchen tables to counters or tall gathering tables is also the way to go this year.
Get that industrial look
The industrial appeal is very much trendy in 2015, says Freshome. It is largely due to the influence of popular cooking shows on television.
You can opt for mobile kitchen islands that have steel wheels, and stainless countertops or shelves. You can also make use of industrial-themed lighting with elements of black steel, stainless steel, rivets, and copper or brass.
