The Marvel superstar Robert Downey Jr. has announced that he still has a number of different projects related to the comic book heroes but outside of the confirmed films, it's anyone's guess what else the actor has in store.
As the fourth installment of the "Iron Man" franchise hasn't been confirmed, a source has revealed that the robotic hero may be appearing in the 2017 Spider-Man standalone film.
It has been circulating that the appearance of Tony Stark in the web-slinging action flick boils down to contract agreements and extension. It appears that the 50-year-old celebrity is interested enough to pursue continued discussions .
During a recent interview, the actor admitted shared that he is for Spider-Man joining the Avengers.
"The funny thing is, it all feeds back into itself because now it's got me thinking that that would be something that Stark Industries would actually be diverting funds to and all that," quoted E! Online of "The Judge" actor when asked about Spider-Man.
"This fantasy life that I get to have, making these movies, the nice thing is when some of the fantasy from the films turns into reality, a technological reality," added the Hollywood icon.
Spider-Man vs Iron Man
With the rumored movie appearances, it looks like Iron Man is going head to head with everyone. Following confirmation that the technology genius is going to be on opposing sides with Captain America in upcoming movie, "Captain America: Civil War," we may see RDJ fighting yet another Marvel hero.
Vanity Fair reported earlier that plot rumors suggest, "the new Spider-Man movie (called Spectacular Spider-Man) will feature Iron Man and Spider-Man going toe-to-toe as a test of sorts to see if Spider-Man is tough enough to be in the Avengers."
"Iron Man 4" Update
Downey Jr. has admitted in the past that he signed on to play one of the core characters in the third Captain America film because of his character's central role to the movie.
Given that he is already listed to take part in both the second and third Avengers movies along with the "Civil War," the rumored Spider-Man standalone film, chances are he's got no time in the near future to work on a fourth Iron Man movie.
Good news for fans is that until there is a final confirmation, there's still a chance. RDJ has confirmed it's something he's open to doing but as it stands, there are no plans.
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" will be released May 1, 2015, "Captain America: Civil War" lands in cinemas May 6, 2016 while Spider-Man's solo flick is due out in 2017.
