Fans of the "Battlefield" franchise have been eagerly anticipating the next installment of the game, but very few details have come up regarding "Battlefield 5." Here is a roundup of the news and rumors regarding the game, from its release date to theme, platforms and more.
Release Date
According to reports, "Battlefield 5" is set to be released next year, around October. TweakTown has previously reported that the game is set for release in the fourth quarter of 2016, and it even speculated that the game would be unveiled in the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event in Los Angeles, which unfortunately did not happen.
However, PlayStationLifestyle reports that DICE General Manager Patrick Bach recently slipped in an interview and revealed that they're working on three titles, two of which are known to be "Star Wars Battlefront" and "Mirror's Edge Catalyst." This has apparently led to speculations that the third game is either "Battlefield 5" or "Battlefield: Bad Company 3," though it is reportedly more possible that it's the former since the developer themselves mentioned that they were unsure of how to develop "Bad Company 3."
Moreover, the 2016 release date of "Battlefield 5" is reportedly more possible since EA head Andrew Wilson previously said that they intend to space out their game releases accordingly. "Looking into next year, we will ensure that our players have enough time between releases to fully explore the depth and innovation in our shooter titles," he explained.
Theme
A week ago, a rumor about "Battlefield 5" being set in the future broke out with the alleged Battlefield 2143 screenshot from a Redditor. However, the reported screenshots were declared as fake as SegmentNext said that the Reddit post has been updated with the note: "the images were fake, confirmed by OP. Nothing to see here anymore."
Meanwhile, previous reports stated that "Battlefield 5" will still be military-themed as confirmed by EA. BF4Central also previously reported that the game would do away with the usual theme of cops and robbers.
Platforms
Reports have suggested that "Battlefield 5" will be exclusive to current and next-generation consoles. DICE and EA apparently have no time and intention for making the game available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 because of the huge numbers of game lined up by the developers.
