"New Girl" star Jake Johnson, who plays Nick on the hit FOX show, recently dished on his character and Jess' (Zooey Deschanel) relationship.
In an interview with People Magazine, Johnson said that he does not necessarily want Nick and Jess to get into a relationship at the moment. However, the actor clarified that he likes the idea, but only if it will take place sometime in the future.
"Me personally, I think they belong together in the long-term. I think the show works better when they are not together. Not that I think they're not good together, but because the show is such an ensemble and I think the strength of it is that, it's a six-people lead. And when you got your lead character in a relationship, it just dominates so much of the story," he said.
Meanwhile, Johnson also confirmed the upcoming release date of "New Girl" Season 5 which will be in January. He added that they will also start filming in Octorber to accommodate Deschanel's maternity leave.
In other news, it was previously confirmed that the premiere episode for Season 5 will feature Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece's (Hannah Simone) engagement party.
During an interview with US Weekly, Greenfield said, "The first episode back is an engagement party. And Cece's mom comes to town; we're not quite sure if she approves of Schmidt or not. There's definitely going to be some road bumps on our way to actually having a wedding."
Greenfield also confirmed in a separate interview that Schmidt will not back out of his upcoming wedding to Cece. However, he will become a "Groom-zilla" because of all the preparations.
In the premiere episode, "New Girl" Season 5 will also feature guests stars Fred Armisen and Taran Killam.
"New Girl" Season 5 will premiere on FOX sometime in January 2016.
