'Thor: Ragnarok' Updates: Mark Ruffalo's 'The Hulk' Set to Appear; PLUS! Valkyrie will be Revealed

"Thor: Ragnarok," the next sequel to Marvel's series based on the Norse god, starring Chris Hemsworth, is not until 2017. But as early as now, exciting details are being set in motion. According to Variety, one particular news die-hard Marvel fans will be pleased to know is that actor Mark Ruffalo is in his final negotiations with producers to appear in the movie. Ruffalo, of course, is known to the franchise's millions of fans as Bruce Banner, a.k.a. The Incredible Hulk.

Both superheroes are part of "The Avengers" movies, but this will be the first time for the two to appear in a stand-alone Marvel film. While the plot remains vague at this point, it will be interesting to see how the hammer-wielding god and the short-tempered superhero will be joining forces. Variety also noted that the next Thor movie will be set somewhere other than Earth and Asgard.

Director Taika Waititi is set to lead the project. Aside from Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston and Jaimie Alexander will reprise their roles as Loki and Lady Sif, respectively.

Meanwhile, The Guardian reported that a female superhero might be joining the two Avengers as well. Valkyrie, a leader of celestial beings called the "Valkyrior" in the Marvel comics, is rumored to make her first live-action debut in the third Thor movie. Whether she will be Thor's new love interest or a mere associate is still unknown.

Also based on the Norse mythology, Valkyrie, whose real name is Brunnhilde, was first introduced in "The Avengers" comics in 1970. She is one of Thor's greatest allies and was once linked to the god. Marvel Studios has not released an official statement as to which actress will be playing the role.

"Thor: Ragnarok" is scheduled for a cinematic release on Nov. 3, 2017.
