‘Pitch Perfect 3’ Cast & News Updates: Anna Kendrick's Co-Star Rebel Wilson Reveals Film's Production Start Date

Rebel Wilson, one of the lead stars in "Pitch Perfect" and "Pitch Perfect 2," revealed that the third installment of the hit series will commence filming in 2016.

During her guesting on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Nov. 3, Tuesday, the 35-year-old actress talked briefly about "Pitch Perfect 3," which she confirmed will start production in early 2016. Wilson will be back in the upcoming film as Fat Amy and will be reuniting with other Barden Bellas members, Beca Mitchell and Chloe Beale, played by Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow, respectively. Kendrick and Snow confirmed earlier this year that they will be reprising their roles in the third film, according to ET.

Elizabeth Banks, who plays a minor role in the "Pitch Perfect" films, is also set to come back as director for "Pitch Perfect 3," Variety reported. Kay Cannon, who penned the scripts for the first two films, will also return to write the second sequel. Banks and Alex Handelman from Brownstone Productions and Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment will be back as producers.

The original film, which was based on a book titled "Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Capella Group" written by Michael Rankin, became a surprise worldwide hit in 2012 earning $113 million. With the success of the first one, producers set to make a sequel which became an even bigger hit after grossing $286 million in ticket sales. "Pitch Perfect 2" was produced with only a $29 million dollar budget.

It is still unknown whether other cast members will be back to reprise their roles in "Pitch Perfect 3." Thus, speculations across the films' fandom on how the story of the upcoming film will go continue to afloat. One plot rumor yet to be confirmed suggested that Hailee Steinfeld, who played Emily Junk in the sequel, will be back to lead the new Barden Bellas with the help of the alum played by Kendrick, Wilson and Snow.

"Pitch Perfect 3" has a tentative release date of Aug. 4, 2017.
