The upcoming episode of "Once Upon a Time" season 5, titled "Nimue," will show a combination of the Darkest Evil and the Lightest Good.
ABC's video preview at the end of episode 6, gives a peek on what's about to happen in episode 7. The Dark Swan (Jennifer Morrison) plans to forge the greatest weapon by putting together Excalibur and the Dark One's dagger. The preview ends with Emma, in Camelot, holding the dagger then a figure in black mask and cape manifests in front of her.
In episode 6, Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle) finally becomes the hero the Dark Swan wanted him to be. Viewers found out that the reason behind this is so Mr. Gold could free Excalibur from the stone, and he did indeed. This is where the show left off and in "Nimue," the Dark Swan is playing her cards to be able to forge the Dark One's dagger and Excalibur to create the ultimate weapon.
In forging the greatest weapon, the Dark Swan needs the spark from man's original fire and a creature who is with great power to make the spark work. Here is where Nimue comes in, which also happens to be the title of the next episode. But who is Nimue?
According to Arthurian legend, Nimue is another name given for the Lady of the Lake. She forged Excalibur and gave it to Arthur to protect Camelot. In the series, Nimue should not be mistaken for the Siren, who inhabits Lake Nostros, from the first couple of seasons of OUAT. This character is malevolent, unlike the Lady of the Lake mentioned by Merlin (Elliot Knight).
In Season 5, Merlin told Henry (Jared Gilmore) that the only one who could possibly stop the Dark One's plans is Nimue. She might be also detrimental to the forging of Excalibur and the Dark One's dagger as she was the one who fashioned the former.
Meanwhile, speculations may finally be put to rest as to how Emma became the Dark Swan with the new preview showing that while in Camelot, a hooded figure appears as she was holding the Dark One's dagger. This masked being could be "one of the darkest beings known to mankind," wrote Carter Matt.
