Keith Richards, Rolling Stones lead guitarist, spends $10.5 million for New York City penthouse

Keith Richards, the Rolling Stones' lead guitarist, and his wife Patti Hansen have just spent $10.5 million on a penthouse at 1 Fifth Avenue in New York City, New York Luxe Listing reports, citing city records.

The new duplex penthouse of the English musician is a combination of three separate units. Located in Greenwich Village, the home includes four bedrooms and four bathrooms. The floor plan of the property shows an outdoor space, which includes three terraces on its lower level. The co-op home comes with a variety of custom features comprised of marble slab bathrooms and white lacquer millwork, as well as Lutron lighting and a Sonos sound system.

According to StreetEasy's listing history, the penthouse was designed by acclaimed architect Joe Serrins, who imagined it in the form of an interior landscape, with "rooms flowing into one another." The staircase is oversized and wrapped with walnut panels, while the handrails are custom-made using bronze and burgundy leather.

The luxury penthouse comes with central air-conditioning, laundry in the building, porters, round-the-clock doorman, washer and dryer, dishwasher and an elevator.

Built in 1927, 1 Fifth Avenue boasts 27 stories and 180 units.

The apartment was initially listed in December 2012 for $15 million and the price proceeded to slip downwards from there, most recently listing for $11 million. While the property was listed with Nikki Field of Sotheby's International Realty, the records show Edward and Reka Darida as the sellers.

Rolling Stone magazine ranks Richards fourth on its list of 100 best guitarists. All 14 songs he wrote with Mick Jagger, lead vocalist of the rock band, have been listed among the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" by the magazine. Last year, Richards and Hansen celebrated their 30th anniversary together with the musician's 70th birthday.
