'Orange Is The New Black' Season 4 Update: ‘Mad Men’ Creator Matthew Weiner Takes on Directorial Job for an Episode

Weiner, the man behind "Mad Men," is going to sit on the director's chair for an episode of "Orange is the New Black."

According to Vanity Fair, Jenji Kohan and Weiner have been friends for a long time now and two of today's top TV writers are not just into sharing trade secrets but also helping each other out when it comes to job opportunities. It has been confirmed that Kohan has agreed to let her friend Weiner direct an episode of "Orange is the New Black" Season 4.

This practice is quite common in the industry but what sets this development apart is the fact that Weiner is well known for following one way and one way only when it comes to his work -- his way. He has said it a few times on record that he is a certified control freak and the "Orange is the New Black" gig will be the first time he will be directing a show he did not write. Another thing critics and fans want to see is if Weiner has what it takes to make even just an episode of the show as glamorous as what he did on "Mad Men."

Aside from these bits of information about Weiner's work habits, it also well documented how much he dislikes giving away hints about the shows he creates or directs. This means asking him straight about this side project will surely mean talking to a wall but reports say that he loves the gig he has been offered to do by a good friend.

According to UpRoxx Laura Prepon of "Orange is the New Black" said about working under Weiner, "We filmed a huge day on Sunday, and a lot of directors might have been overwhelmed by that, but he wasn't and he knew exactly what he wanted to do. With a huge cast like ours, when you have a director who knows exactly what they want, it makes everything go a lot smoother. I love Matt - he's awesome."
