‘Transformers 5’ Cast News & Updates: Mark Wahlberg Is Back to Reprise His Role; Will Michael Bay be Back on the Director’s Chair?

Mark Wahlberg just confirmed he is reprising his role in "Transformers 5," but how true is it that Michael Bay is also coming back to direct the film franchise?

During the premiere of "Daddy's Home," Wahlberg was asked by CinePOP if he will be appearing in the next "Transformers" movie. The 44-year-old actor did not even sugarcoat his reply, and clearly said "Yes." The actor will be reprising his role as Cade Yeager, the scientist who helped out Optimus Prime and his crew in "Transformers: Age of Extinction."

Aside from Wahlberg, there are no other actors who have confirmed their roles for "Transformers 5," not even Nicole Peltz, who played his daughter in the film.

On the other hand, after vowing he would not be back to direct the film franchise, Michael Bay is reportedly in talks with the production for "Transformers 5." Bay recently admitted that he was having meetings with Steven Spielberg to discuss proposals, reported Cinema Blend.

It is not yet set in stone though whether the filmmaker would honor his word that he will not helm the new "Transformers" sequel or he will be back on his directorial chair for the blockbuster franchise.

Meanwhile, a new set of scriptwriters were assembled by Paramount Pictures to pen the foundation of the upcoming "Transformers" movies. One of the writers hired is Akiva Goldsman, who won an Academy Award for the adapted screenplay of "A Beautiful Mind."

Goldsman said, "Our hope is that they are all interconnected and of course standalone, right? I think architecturally, the best - I think I believe this - the best serialized storytelling has integrity from start to finish of the episode, whether it be TV or a movie or comic book or novel series or short story series."

This could only mean that the production wants to create a script which could work both ways -- a story which could either be continued or could end as it is and still have impact on viewers.

"Transformers 5" is set to hit theaters in 2017.
