‘Mockingjay 2’ Release Date, Plot & Spoilers: More Sequels Coming? ‘Hunger Games’ Arriving in IMAX 3D?

Fans of "The Hunger Games" franchise have reason to rejoice as Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed, according to Movie Pilot, that "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" is not the last time people will hear about Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, and the rest of the team. It turns out that there are huge possibilities for sequels and prequels.

He told analysts a week ago that they are "actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities," apart from the studio announcing that the film will also be available in an IMAX 3D format.

As of the moment, it would appear that they can only talk about "possibilities" of making more "The Hunger Games" films. The box office performance of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" on Nov. 20 this year will most likely be the true test in determining whether pursuing sequels and prequels would be a lucrative idea.

The Christian Times assured fans of the franchise that they will get to see the second part of "Mockingjay" in 3D and IMAX 3D. Lionsgate recently announced that they will be digitally re-mastering the film into the immersive IMAX format when the movie premieres in November.

"We believe it will be a thrilling and action-packed finale to this blockbuster franchise," IMAX Corporation Senior Executive Vice President Greg Foster said. "The fan enthusiasm and cultural impact that this series has generated has been truly remarkable, and we are thrilled to offer audiences the opportunity to experience the last chapter in IMAX 3D."

The IMAX 3D announcement has made fans even more excited for the movie to finally reach theaters. A huge percentage of the fans, if not all, are even hoping for Lionsgate to make sequels and prequels, as they just cannot get enough of the Suzanne Collins's book-to-movie franchise.

Perhaps the prequel can focus on Haymitch, played by Woody Harrelson, the only other victor from District 12. He won the Games when he was only 16 years old and had to "mentor" 23 years worth of tributes--all of whom had died inside the arena. Fans might like to find out the events that transpired that led to his Hunger Games victory, as well as how he mentored the other tributes.

It would also be nice to see how the Hunger Games even started. According to the books, it all began with the rebellion and ended with the destruction of District 13. Panem leaders stated that they implemented the Hunger Games to keep the "balance."
