Kendrick Lamar’s 2015 album is still among the top records many are waiting for today. However, the people working on the album managed to keep everything under wraps which resulted in no information leaked regarding its title or album cover.
Thankfully for Lamar’s fans, they were able to get their hands on one of the Grammy-winning rapper’s work, “The Blacker the Berry,” earlier this month. The single received a lot of positive feedback, just as his previous album, “m.A.A.d city.” Moreover, the success of his first album prompted The Boom Box to say that Lamar is now regarded as an important voice after Tupac Shakur.
Shortly after “The Blacker the Berry” came out, it became a controversial track for many, particularly due to the issues it tackled. News Everyday says that the song took on heavy topics such as police violence, racism, and hypocrisy.
Soon thereafter, fans started to wonder if the entirety of his upcoming album will be as dark as “The Blacker the Berry.” Additionally, this particular track is believed to be a clear opposite of his previous hit, “i,” which won a Grammy award for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song, as per Venture Capital Post.
One of the lines of his “The Blacker the Berry” says, “I’m the biggest hypocrite of 2015.” “So why did I weep when Trayvon Martin was in the street? / When gang-banging make me kill a n***a blacker than me? / Hypocrite!” he rapped.
Oswegonian says that the song is clearly more aggressive and cynical compared with those released by the other rappers who claim to provide the same caliber of music. What makes Lamar stand out from the rest of the rappers of his generation is his courage and straightforward manner, as indicated in his songs.
“The lyrical aspect of this song stands out the most,” says the report. “It’s been a long time since a rapper has decided to tackle the topic of racial injustice and stereotypes in their music. ‘The Blacker the Berry’ is a representation of why the genre of hip hop was started in the first place, as it demands listeners to play attention to its meaning, so they, too, can be aware of the issues.”
Lamar was also among the celebrities who performed at the Air + Style event. However, he walked out 45 minutes into his performance reportedly due to his impatience over the low set sound, as per a separate News Everyday report. “Soundman, I need you turn this s*** up!” he said. “We’re trying to party. These people paid good money to see a live show. I don’t think the sound guy realized I have some of the loudest f****n’ fans in the whole world.”
