This week, Realtor.com released a list where it ranked the top retirement towns across the United States.

The real estate listings website recently released its annual rankings of America's best retirement towns. The list analyzes which retirement towns feature good weather, easy access to urban centers, close proximity to medical centers, and affordable homes. Realtor.com also compared home prices of each retirement town to the median list price for all U.S. cities over the past year as well as median age data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

3 Best Retirement Towns in the US

1. Sun City Center, Florida

  • Percentage of retiree-friendly listings: 84%

  • Median list price of homes: $315,000

Sun City Center secured the top spot this year as the best retirement town in the U.S. The community, which ranked third on Realtor.com's list last year, boasts lower homeowners association dues than other places in the state, which leads to overall lower cost of living.

In addition to lower costs, residents can easily go around the neighborhood using a golf cart or a scooter.

That being said, Sun City Center is strictly a 55-plus community. This means retirees with grandchildren are unlikely to be allowed to have their families stay with them.

2. Green Valley, Arizona

  • Percentage of retiree-friendly listings: 83%

  • Median list price of homes: $349,900

Green Valley ranked fourth as the best place to retire in 2023. This jumped to second place this year in large part due to retirees having easy access to golf courses, pickleball courts, swimming pools, and hiking trails. Green Valley is also near the world-famous Madera Canyon where visitors can go bird-watching.

3. King City, Oregon

  • Percentage of retiree-friendly listings: 81%

  • Median list price of homes: $375,000

Located in the Pacific Northwest, King City jumped up from placing sixth last year. The retirement town focuses on sustainable living and provides retirees access to the top doctors in the best hospitals in Portland.

Nearby amenities include the King City Golf Course and local flora and fauna at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge.
