Laurene Powell Jobs, a billionaire investor and philanthropist through her Emerson Collective and widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs, just bought the most expensive single-family home ever recorded in San Francisco history.

Powell, 60, recently bought a three-story mansion in the Pacific Heights neighborhood for around $70 million, marking the most expensive home ever sold in the coastal city. Previously, the most expensive home sold in San Francisco was $43.5 million.

The property was not publicly listed for sale. Additionally, the sellers---Sloan Lindemann Barnett, daughter of George L. Lindemann, and her husband Roger Barnett, CEO of nutrition company Shaklee---originally wanted over $100 million for the estate, which dates back to 1916. This was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, citing individuals with knowledge of the sale.

The Barnetts bought the property in 2011 for $33 million. At the time of purchase, the property spanned nearly 17,300 square feet and featured seven bedrooms across three stories. However, the Barnetts were said to have made extensive renovations during their ownership.

The house is located between the properties of Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison and famed Apply designer Jonathan Ive.

Powell Jobs' Other Real Estate Properties

Prior to the San Francisco purchase, Powell Jobs bought a $94 million property in the Paradise Cove area in Malibu. That oceanfront property spanned four acres and was located next to a property she already owned, per Mansion Global, citing people familiar with that purchase.

The Malibu purchase was the latest addition to a multi-sprawling compound the billionaire bought in the area over the past decades. In 2015, she purchased a plot for $44 million. This was followed by a $16.5 million purchase in 2017 and a $17.5 million purchase in 2021. In total, Powell has spent $172 million in four transactions in Malibu.

In 2018, Powell was linked to the purchase of a home in the Russian Hill neighborhood in San Francisco.

Powell is the founder of the Emerson Collective, an investment, philanthropy, and advocacy company. She is also the widow of Apple cofounder Steve Jobs, who she married in 1991. The couple had three children before Jobs died of complications from a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor in 2011.
