The entryway is often the first thing you see when entering a home. The entryway is commonly a dumping ground for different everyday items.

A cluttered entryway is an eyesore. It can disrupt your routine. A cluttered entryway can also put off your guests. If your entryway already has piles of belongings, you may want to consider organizing.

Here are five items to remove from the entry.

Mail

Mail is one of the most common clutter. Piling unopened mail can result in missing an important deadline or bill payment. When the mail arrives, sort through it. Set the important mail in the study or a dedicated spot. Throw out any junk mail.

Shoes

Typically, entryways hold shoes. These can be outdoor shoes, indoor slippers, or even seasonal wear. To avoid cluttering the entryway, households should place a shoe limit. For instance, three to four pairs per member.

Take it a step further by adding a shoe cabinet or cubbies. This allows you to store shoes that are not used as often, such as winter boots. Installing a shoe storage system can help improve the look and function of the porch.

Seasonal Accessories

If it's the summer season, you should consider storing your winter coats and gear somewhere else. On the other hand, you can store your summer hats and headwear when the summer season ends.

Garages and basements are the perfect place to keep off-season items. If you live in an apartment, you can store your jackets in an under-bed storage.

Bags

Kids who use the same backpack every day often leave their bags at the entryway after school. Adults may also leave their work bags at the entry. To avoid cluttering the space, store the bags in respective rooms. For example, the work bag can be stored in the study. The school bag can be stored in the study as well.

Reusable Bags

Disposable grocery bags are being phased out in several places. This leads many shoppers to use and accumulate a collection of reusable bags. While this can be stored in the entryway, it should go into a storage system. Some places to store reusable bags include a closet, baskets, or a dresser.
