“The X-Files” had already ended its run on Fox, having dominated the small screen from 1993 to 2002. However, according to TV Wise, show runners are reportedly about to seal a deal for a short-order run of the hit TV series, featuring Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully and David Duchovny as Fox Mulder.

The report mentioned that show runners only wanted to revive the show as an attempt to tie up the loose ends that were left by the main series. The franchise’s second feature film in 2008, “I Want to Believe,” much to the dismay of the fans, left even more questions unanswered.

“The idea is to get the old gang back,” Anderson told Daily Mail. “Have some fun and get a bit of closure for us and the audience.”

By “old gang,” fans have been left to wonder whether or not the whole production crew and cast will be called back to reprise the roles that they all had 22 years ago. Chris Carter, whose “The After” on Amazon was just recently canceled, is most likely going to return to his Director’s seat.

Joining Anderson and Duchovny, as reported by The International Business Times, is Mitch Pileggi. Pileggi used to play the role of a highly strict FBI boss named Walter Skinner.

It remains unclear whether or not the rest of the cast will follow suit, such as “rat boy” Alex Krycek, played by Nicholas Lea, and the trio of adorable geniuses who were more famously known as the Lone Gunmen, namely Dean Haglund, Tom Braidwood, and Bruce Harwood.

Although the Lone Gunmen were killed off in the show in its finale episode back in 2002, they might still be brought to life due to certain circumstances. After all, “The X-Files” has always catered to the notion that anything is possible – which leads fans to believe that death does not always mean forever.

An insider from the network dished that “The X-Files” continuation will only feature six episodes and that production will begin this coming June. According to Showbiz411, the writers who worked on the original TV show have been called in to contribute.

At present, it is unclear how the show will proceed, especially since the series already ended with the death of the Lone Gunmen 22 years ago. Fans speculate that Mulder and Scully might be harboring an alien baby by now. Others say that the Cigarette-Smoking Man may have already died of lung cancer.
