Greek Islands are up for grabs and there are already several foreign investors that are buying properties in Greece.
Gulf News says that there are more than 40 private islands that are for sale in Greece. It is on the report that Greece is "a prey very coveted by several investors." It can not be denied that Greece has now become the top destination for foreign investors.
To date, US mugol Warren Buffet along with Jonny Depp is the recent investors who have acquired Greek islands. This information has been revealed by London-based real estate firm Proto Organisation Ltd.
According to the report, Buffet has joined with Alessandro Proto ( an Italian shareholder of NYT newspaper) in buying the island of St Thomas. The said island in the Gulf of Egina near Piraeus port has an area of 1.2 sq km. It was bought for €15 million which about $16.25 million. The acquisiotion has been finalized last week.
"At this time, Greece is a prey very coveted by several investors. After the new loan made by the EU, it is clear that this is the best time to invest in Greece," Steven Taylor, a spokesperson of Proto Organisation Ltd. Said in an interview
Depp on the other hand bought Strongylo, a small islet in Aegean Sea of Greece. Macedonia Online reports that Strongylo is uninhabited island. Johnny Depp bought it for 4.2 mln euro. Other Hollywood celebrities that are eyeing to buy Greek islands are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It is said that the Hollywood power duo wants to purchase the Gaia island which is situated in Echinades complex in the Ionian Sea.
China Daily reports that Greek real estate agents have cautioned investors that it would take some time "to finalize procedures for the acquisition of a Greek island" because of the bureaucracy. It has been noted that paperwork is a lengthy process because there are over 30 documents as well as certifications to be filled for the acquisition of a private island in Greece.
