Beverly Hills has refused to put bike lanes on its Santa Monica Boulevard.

L.A Curbed reports that the Beverly Hills City Council has come up with a final decision that they do not want to put a bike lane on Santa Monica Boulevard. It is reported that majority of the council members were against the bike lanes. Despite the majority members of the council, "the section of SMB through the city could definitely accommodate bike lanes."

According to the report, some of the city riders were hoping to have that $25 million reconstruction in some part of the major artery which would include a bike lane.

One of the members of the council openly said that it would be dangerous to have a bike lane on Santa Monica Boulevard. She believed that it would be a dangerous place to bike on.

It has also been noted that a committee of community members has been created to get the inputs of the public concerning having bike lanes on the said boulevard.  However, the council has rejected the recommendation of the said committee. It was revealed that the decision was a 3-2 split, majority (comprising the mayor and 2 members of the council) voted against the bike lanes.

In a separate report of LA Curbed on March 2014, it could be recalled some insane reasons why Beverly Hills Homeowners are opposing Bike Lanes on Santa Monica Boulevard. There was an open letter that was published by The Beverly Hills North Home Owners Association. The open letter had urged the council to reject the bike lane proposal. One main reason for the said association to oppose the said lane was that the lane would lop off a potion of the Beverly Hills Garden Park. The widening of the road construction would destroy the aforesaid garden park. This homeowner association should be the first to rejoice learning that City Council has finally "just pounded the final nail into the bike lanes coffin."
