A report from the New World Health, in partnership with LIO Global, has shown that the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore have now become the favorite domicile of millionaires.
The compilation was done by Andrew Amoils, Head of Research at New World Wealth, and Nadia Read, Head of World Residence and Citizenship Platform of LIO Global. The study revealed the following reasons for why these high-net worth individuals would rather stay in these countries:
- Education for their children
- Freedom of global mobility and access
- Security
- Wealth protection for their families.
The report likewise described the top buys of a typical millionaire, which Amoils identified as:
- Prime property
- Sports cars
- Classic cars
- Art
- Private jets
- Jewelry
- Watches
The study also compared the location of some 60,000 extremely wealthy people in 2000, with the sample in 2014. A "millionaire" is defined as having a net asset of at least $1 million or more, but this does not include primary residences. A domicile, on the other hand, is described as the country which a person considers his permanent home.
Of the four countries listed, the United Kingdom has the most number of millionaire migrants, with the majority coming from China, Europe, Russia, India, Africa and the Middle East.
Those moving in to the U.S., on the other hand, are from Russia, India, United Kingdom and China.
Migration to Singapore are commonly done by the wealthy individuals from Indonesia, India and China, while Australia is also experiencing an increase in the number of rich immigrants from South Africa, Indonesia, India, China and the United Kingdom.
Although not to be treated as the top favorite of millionaires, other countries do have high-worth individuals relocating to them. Hong Kong, for instance, has many of its immigrants coming in from China. The United Arab Emirates (mainly Dubai) has rich people coming in from India, North Africa and the Middle East. Canada also has most of its inflows from the United Kingdom, Europe and South Africa, while Turkey welcomed the rest of the wealthy people from North Africa and the Middle East.
