Dota 2 International Tournament has ended its competition last night at Key Arena Center in Seattle. The ultimate winner of the competition is the American team Evil Geniuses, which defeated the Chinese team.
Kotaku reports that this is the first time an American team has come out the winner in the Dota 2 International Tournament. The U.S. Team Evil Geniuses won a $US6.6 million prize defeating the Chinese team CDEC. The American squad is considered as the underdog when the tournament started. In the best of 5 grand f, the Evil Geniuses has a score of 3 points against 1 points of CDEC team. The Chinese team has previously knocked the Evil Geniuses into the losers' category.
Dota 2 International Tournament has a whooping prize of $US18 million. Valve has hosted the international competition. Evil Geniuses finishes the competition with $US6.6 million while CDEC earns $US2.8 million.
Forbes says that there have been a few different records that have been set when the 5th world championship for Dota 2 has ended. One of these new records is the champion of the tournament- an American team won for the first time. The second thing is that the five members of Evil Geniuses- PPD, Universe, Fear, Sumail, and Aui- has brought home the "lion's share of Valve's unprecedented, crowdfunded $18M prize pool." Each member of the winning team have over a million each in their pockets.
It has also been reported that Newbee, the champion of 2014's Dota 2 International Tournament, has been the first team to be eliminated from TI5 this year, thus, showing the volatility of the scene for this year's winner and the tournament in general.
IGN has also reported how the tournament could turn the events in an extreme way. The Chinese team CDEC, dubbed as a dark horse that rose out of the qualifier stage, have been defeated by American Evil Geniuses, which they have knocked down in the lower category.
