The BBC America has just released the trailer for the long-running Time Lord British science fiction television series 'Doctor Who'. There has been much speculation when the trailer was shown in the San Diego Comic-Con last July, and much of it was surrounding the appearance of 'Game of Thrones' cast Maisie Williams. The new season will be Peter Capaldi's second turn after taking over Matt Smith's 2014 role. Capaldi will be the 12th incarnation of The Doctor.
The clip doesn't highlight Williams but it does offer small hints of what her role would be on the Science Fiction show. She shares scenes with the Doctor, played by Capaldi, and Clara Oswald, played by Jenna Coleman.
"He hasn't got a plan yet," Coleman's character tells Williams' character in the scene. "But he will have and it will be spectacular."
Producers offered few clues about Williams' role but showrunner Steven Moffatt did say that her character would be integral to the series.
"It's a significant role," Moffatt said during the 'Doctor Who' Television Critics Association press presentation last July. "We're not throwing her away. We're not just getting star value and doing nothing with it. It's a great part, and she's terrific in it," said Moffatt.
According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, the trailer also offers looks into Missy (Michelle Gomez) and some monsters like Zygon. Last season the trailers were all "darkness, hatred, am I a good man?" This season it is "I am the Doctor, and I save people." That makes the fans so much more hopeful about this season.
Other guest stars for the new season are 'League of Gentlement's' Reece Shearsmith, Rebecca Front, Rufus Hound, Paul Kaye, Elaine Tan, Neet Mohan, Bethany Black, Paul Courtenay Hyu, and Joivan Wade.
'Doctor Who' ended in 2014 with its highest-rating season in America with 2.04 million viewers on BBC America.
The new season premiere will air on BBC America on Sept. 19 with a two-part episode entitled "The Magician's Apprentice" and "The Witch's Familiar," written by Moffatt and directed by Hettie Macdonald.
