Adam Baldwin is back as a guest-star in the 8th season of the ABC series Castle, which also stars Nathan Fillion, Seamus Dever and Susan Sullivan.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Baldwin, who was in the show's fourth season playing a cop who resorted to crude methods to get what he wanted, will come back as Detective Ethan Slaughter. Baldwin will reprise the role in one of the first few episodes of the new season.

ABC has not released any details about the upcoming appearance in the crime drama series, but now that Beckett (played by Stana Katic) has become the new boss at the 12th Precinct, Castle (played by Fillion) will have to find a new sidekick. And the new sidekick will be Toks Olagundoye, in the role of Hayley Shipton. Olagundoye is a new series regular, and of The Neighbors fame.

According to Inquisitr, show runner Alexi Hawley have revealed that there will be many changes to the show to "shake things up," and will even have some relationship drama between Beckett and Castle.

"The important thing to say about Rick and Kate is that the show has always been and will always be about their love affair. But we're looking to add some drama to it, some spark to it. We're going to have fun. It's going to be emotional at times, it will be romantic ... It will be everything," said Hawley.

She also fended off rumors of Olagundoye's character being a third party in the Beckett-Castle tandem, saying that fans should not be worried.

At the end of the most recent season, Castle had been given an award for his writing that he dedicated to his family, while Beckett has been offered the chance to run for Senate.

Season 8 of Castle premieres with a two-parter on Sept. 21 on ABC. The episode is entitled "XY" and was written by Terence Paul Winter and Hawley. The new season will focus on why Castle and Kate are coming together.
