Hollywood music composer Jonathan Scheffer just sold his 5,200 square-foot townhome in Greenwich Village, New York for a solid $18.1 million. This was reported in a post in wsj.com and confirmed by Prime Manhattan Residential president Robert Dankner who also represented the buyers of the property.
In a post in variety.com, a listing showed that the property had 6 bedrooms and 5.5 baths. It also included a 2-car garage, a guest house located at the back of the property and a home gym that occupied a separate cottage.
The Greek-Revival home is located on West 10th Street and it has been on the market since April with a price tag of $19 million. The whole house will be removed and a new one will be built its place. Architectural plans show that the new owners are planning to add a penthouse and a new basement which will increase the size to 7,500 square feet. Danker also added in the same report in wsj.com, that his clients will have no problems spending somewhere from $7 million to $10 million to complete the project. He also said that it will take around 14 months to finish.
It was also outlined in the post that the house was built in the 1830s and was sold for less than its market value because of the cost of repairs needed to restore it to its former glory. Danker compared the deal to completely restored homes in Greenwich Village that were selling fast at a whopping $30 million dollar price range. He added in the last 18 months alone, half of the village property has already been sold. Among Scheffer's famous projects that he worked on as a composer was "Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles" and "Heat". He bought the house in 1993 which means he owned the property for over two decades.
There was no information available as to the conductor's personal net worth.
