The world's largest Ferris wheel that will overlook the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline is coming to New York. Expected to be spinning by 2015, the Ferris wheel is said to draw New Yorkers and tourists to Staten Island, the city's so-called "forgotten borough," the Associated Press reported.

The 625-foot-tall wheel will cost $230 million and offer a singular view as it sweeps higher than other big wheels in the world such as the Singapore Flyer and the London Eye.

It will even exceed the "High Roller" planned for Las Vegas, the Associated Press confirmed.

The Associated Press also reported that, the New York Wheel will be designed to carry 1,440 passengers at a time and is expected to draw 4.5 million people a year to a setting that will also include a 100-shop mall and a 200-room hotel.

Additional features include various commercial sites, a 950-space structured parking garage with a green roof that has solar panels and planted gardens.

While revealing the plans of the world's biggest wheel, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said it will be "an attraction unlike any other in New York City - in fact, it will be, we think, unlike any other on the planet," according to the Associated Press.

The wheel is expected to put Staten Island on the map, as it will be known as the place where the nation's biggest Ferris wheel resides.

"It's going to be a real icon. The Ferris wheel will be Staten Island's Eiffel Tower," Sen. Charles Schumer told the Associated Press.

Construction for the project is expected to bring $500 million in private investments and 1,100 permanent jobs to Staten Island. The project is expected to begin early 2014.

"It will offer unparalleled and breathtaking views, and is sure to become one of the premier attractions in New York City and the latest exciting addition to our newly revitalized waterfront," Bloomberg told the Associated Press.
