James Franco, the actor who has appeared in acclaimed films like "Milk" and "127 Hours", has bought a duplex in Silver Lake, Los Angeles.

The 1,496 square-foot house was purchased in August for $775,000. It was previously owned by designer Jane Bryant, according to Real Estalker.

The house was built in 1920s by director D W Griffith, best known for his film "The Birth of a Nation",  reports Contactmusic.com.

The property named as a "mini compound" has two bed rooms, 1.75 bathrooms and a deck. The main house includes a narrow dining room with classy French doors. The master bedroom has a massive brick fire place and a veranda with an amazing view.

Franco, is also a some-time writer and poet. He has been living in New York for the past many years where he has been pursuing academics along with a film career. He is enrolled in Yale for a Ph.D in English and was studying writing and film-making at Columbia and New York Universities.

In 2003, Franco had purchased a multi-storied Mediterranean style building in Los Angeles for $1,165,000 which he sold for $1,525,000 in 2006.
