'Twin Peaks' Revival: Amanda Seyfried Joins the Cast

As production for the revival of "Twin Peaks" rolls out, a new actress has been announced to join its cast. TV Line reported that the A-list actress Amanda Seyfried will be playing a special part in the show. While producers are keeping her role a surprise for the fans, TV Line confirmed it will be a major, "pivotal" one. Seyfried will have a recurring role, appearing in multiple episodes.

The actress, who is known for her blockbuster movies such as "Mama Mia" and "Les Miserables," actually started her career in television with "As the World Turns" between 1999-2001.

"Twin Peaks" is a crime and mystery series from the '90s. David Lynch and Mark Frost, the show's original creators, are on board to write, produce, and direct nine new episodes. Both Lynch and Frost insist that this revival is not a remake, but a continuation of the show's story, picking up from where it ended.

"David and I stayed in touch and remained closed friends throughout all these years. It was about three years ago this summer we were having lunch. And we were just kicking stuff around and we started getting some ideas in our heads about 'Twin Peaks.' Suddenly, it felt like a place we wanted to visit again," Frost told TV Line.

"Twin Peaks" was once one of the top-rated dramas. It starred Kyle Maclachlan as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, who was leading an investigation about the murder of a beauty queen in their small town. Maclachlan has confirmed that he will be reprising his role.

In an interview with Deadline, he said, "I was very excited for two reasons really. One is the character of Dale Cooper, which is a lot of fun and the world of 'Twin Peaks.' Secondly, the chance to work with David again because we haven't worked together as actor/director for 25 years roughly. So it's been a while. I missed that relationship very much."

"Twin Peaks" is set to debut on Showtime in 2016, exactly 25 years since the show wrapped up in 1991.
