The United Arab Emirates has declared a three-day mourning due to the death of the Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Guardian reported.

The Prince, who is the son of the Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has died of a heart attack at age 33.

Rashid was the eldest sibling of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. His brother, Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council. The two will be accepting condolences from mourners until Monday, Gulf News reported.

With that, UAE flags will be flown at half-mast to express the people's mourning of Rashid's sudden death.

Funeral prayers of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum are held after Maghrib prayers at Zabeel Mosque in Dubai, according to the Dubai Media Office.

The Prince of Dubai studied at the Rashid School for Boys and attended the Sandhurst Military Academy in the United Kingdom graduating in 2002.

Rashid is known as a sports personality since he is an equestrian and is the owner of Zabeel Racing and United Holdings Group Dubai and is a principal partner of International Noor Islamic Bank.

He participated in different International competitions where he won two gold medals during the 2006 Doha Asian Olympics 120km Endurance Individual Mixed and the 120km Endurance Team Mixed events. Apart from that, he was also an avid fan and supporter of the U.K. Manchester United Football Club.

He was appointed as President of the UAE Olympic Committee in 2008 and he resigned from his post in 2010 due to excessive work schedule.

Sheikh Rashid’s personal net worth was estimated by Forbes in 2010 to be $1.9bn, Newsoxy reported.

Royalties, politicians and other personalities extended their condolences to the family of Rashid.
