The supernatural drama series 'Proof' has been cancelled by TNT after one season. Produced by Kyra Sedgwick and created by Rob Bragin, the series features Jennifer Beals starring as Carolyn Tyler, a doctor who researches reincarnation and near-death experiences, and who happens to be coping with the death of her teenage son. In addition to Sedgwick, it also included executive producers Alex Graves, Jill Littman, and Tom Jacobson.

Also starred in the 10-episode series that debuted in June include Joe Morton, Callum Blue, Annie Thurman, Edi Gathegi, and Caroline Rose Kaplan.

According to Variety news, despite airing behind "Rizzoli and Isles,'' the TNT staple, the series averaged a mere 0.31 rating in adults 18-49 and 2.1 million viewers overall. Variety TV columnist Brian Lowry said it was not a hit with critics as it explored the mystery of death in "the most uninspired and banal of ways.''

"Filled with clichés, the TNT series benefits from the casting of Jennifer Beals in the central role, but handcuffs her with a drab character and dead-end concept, which, as executed, demonstrates what would happen if a medical procedural and 'The X-Files' had a baby," the columnist wrote in his review.

Deadline said TNT has opted not to proceed for the second season of the supernatural drama that starred Jennifer Beals. The series launched with 2.7 million viewers, dropping to 1.8 million before rebounding and finishing the season with 2.3 million and 2 million the last two episodes, respectively.

While the show has been a solid draw in total viewers, it had been an older skewing. The last week of July, specifically July 27, 'Proof' averaged a solid 3.3 million total viewers to rank as No. 7 on basic cable, but its viewership for 18-49 was 673,000, where it ranked No. 28. In the prior week, it ranked No. 9 in total viewers (3 million) and No. 41 in 18-49 viewers. That was lesser for the finale 3.2 million (No. 7).
