A penthouse unit at the downtown Seattle condominium tower Escala where a scene from the popular romance series "Fifty Shades of Grey" fictionally takes place, has sold for a cool $6.2 million, according to a report.
Ed and Cynthia Maletis bought the lavish condo which spreads out over 5,100 square feet and has a 1,000-square-foot terrace, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal. The condo is the most expensive one sold in Seattle in the past three years, said Escala real estate broker Erik Mehr of Erik Mehr and Associates.
Mehr noted that from mid-February to mid-March, Escala did more than $19 million worth of residential sales. Of the project's 269 residential units, 33 remain unsold.
The Escala condo building on Fourth Avenue in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood is the setting for "Fifty Shades of Grey" tryst between billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. James apparently took some liberties describing Escala in her book (you can't land a helicopter on the roof) but the book's popularity in the past year is causing some people to want to look around Escala
