Micro blogging giant, Twitter Inc. has leased office space of around 8000 square feet near the Caltrain Station in Sunnyvale, California. The move marks its debut in the South Bay area of the state, according to Mercury news.

Twitter Inc. has signed a lease to occupy prime commercial space in 400 West California. The transaction was handled by Colliers International, a popular real estate firm. Twitter purchased the office from Principal Real Estate Investors.

Considering the size of the space, looks like the company will only be able to house 40 to 50 employees in the office. Moreover, since Twitter officials declined to comment on the deal, it is unclear what they will use the space for, reports Business Journal.

Twitter moving to Sunnyvale is  good news for the city. Apparently, Twitter purchased space in the area due to its proximity to the station and also for its potential of expansion, revealed Dave Sandlin, an agent who assisted with the transaction, to Mercury News.

"Twitter bypassed Mountain View and Palo Alto, even though there are blocks of space the same size as this lease, because we do offer the ability to expand at our location. Twitter is on a high growth curve," Sandlin said to Mercury News.

For the past few months, Sunnyvale has become a hub for high-profile companies like Apple, LinkedIn, Amazon and Google, who have all opened offices there.

While Twitter is expanding its real estate, it is also looking to speed up its coding process. The social networking giant just acquired, Ubalo, a company that provides services, which accelerates the coding process. The terms of this deal too were not revealed.

Twitter is considered to be the only real competition to social networking giant, Facebook. Facebook is also getting new headquarters, which is being designed by Starchitect, Frank gehry.
