The Season 3 of "Ray Donovan" has recently ended, and with the news of the show's renewal for Season 4 come spoilers and speculations regarding the upcoming storyline of the TV series. Season 4 showrunner David Hollander has shed some light on the show's upcoming season and actually expressed his regret over the Ray (Leiv Schreiber) and Paige (Katie Holmes) "love story."
According to International Business Times Hollander, who will be the showrunner of "Ray Donovan" for Season 4, said that the fact that Ray slept with Paige in Season 3 is one of the things he regrets about the show. Hollander said that Paige was initially intended to be Ray's love interest, but when the story played out, it apparently did not seem right.
"We knew in the design of the character that that was supposed to happen. I don't think it was our best move. I think we were in kind of a dynamic place where it needed to happen to trip up other wires. And by the time it happened we began to downplay it, to the point where it was a blip," Hollander explained to TV Line.
According to the report, the move actually confused viewers because it was not apparent in the earlier part of Season 3 that Ray was actually interested in Paige.
Meanwhile, in Hollander's interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said that Ray will be having a new relationship in Season 4, which will take place in a new city. According to the showrunner, Ray's new lovelife will allow him to open up personally and professionally and that such new love interest will come out of his desire of facing his past.
Though the said relationship will take place in a new city, Hollander clarified that the show will still be mostly shot in L.A. With Ray's new love interest though, it remains unclear if Holmes will be back in Season 4 to reprise her role. Though Hollander said that Paige won't be the focus of the new season, he teased that he's "never finished with anybody."
"Ray Donovan" Season 4 will return to the small screen in 2016.
