"The Flash" Season 2 fans weren't necessarily surprised to see Teddy Sears play the role of the other Flash character, Jay Garrick. What fans didn't necessarily expect is the possibility of the character to be romantically linked with Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker).

In an interview with TV Line, writer Todd Helbing, who co-wrote "Flash of the Two Worlds," revealed that someone needs to join Dr. Stein in the Firestorm matrix. Since Ronnie/Firestorm (Robbie Amell) already passed away, it's possible for Sears' character to take his place.

When asked whether or not this also means that the character will capture the heart of Caitlin, Helbing said that anything is possible on the hit The CW series.

"We're in the Flash-verse, so anything is possible. There's Earth-2, there's the multiverse. There's always the possibility for Ronnie to come back," he said.

Helbing added that Jay is struggling with something, and his connection with Caitlin will strengthen the minute she decides to help him with it.

Meanwhile, Garrick spoke with Entertainment Tonight recently to dish on his character's fate in season 2.

When asked what Jay and Barry Allen's (Grant Gustin) relationship will be like in the upcoming episodes, Sears said that the two will learn to trust each other.

"So it's safe to say that after episode two Jay wins Barry's trust and they just move forward as a team from there," he said.

In other news, Sears was also asked who he thinks is better -- Jay or Barry -- in terms of being The Flash.

"I don't know! I mean Barry Allen is a young pup and I've got some years on him, so I would wager the youngin' might take it, but I don't know. I would love to get there and see it for myself because that would be really fun," he explained.

"The Flash" Season 2 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
