Interior decorator and television host Nate Berkus has done what he does best - converted a horse stable into a chic working space that houses his design firm, Nate Berkus Associates' headquarters in Chicago.
Once you take a look at the office, you could never imagine that it was a stable. Refinery29.com took a tour of the office and communicated with some of the employees there who were more than happy to talk about Berkus and the office.
Apparently, Berkus decorated the place himself (of course!). He handpicked furniture from the Chicago flea market and some malls, only to transform the place into one of the world's coolest work environments. Some of the furniture is custom made.
The Chicago office houses only 14 employees, all of them product designers. Berkus moved the headquarters of the firm to the office located at West Loop sometime back in 2006. The place looks more like a chic warehouse with un-painted brick walls, high ceilings and large glass windows. Upholstered chairs, Gatsby end tables, tin shelves and locker-style cupboards add authenticity to the "warehouse" look.
Bonus fact: Employees are allowed to bring their pets to office.
Berkus has listed his condo in Manhattan for sale with a price tag of $699,000. The home was featured in 'O, the Oprah Magazine while Berkus' other 3000 square feet duplex condo in Manhattan was featured in the Architectural Digest.
Berkus has his hands full now. Apart from hosting a new home makeover reality show "Renovation Nation" which will be produced and aired on NBC, he is also engaged to boyfriend, Jeremy Brent, Rachel Zoe's former assistant. He recently proposed to Brent at the top of Machu Picchu in Peru. He will probably move to a home in Hollywood Hills, which he and Brent purchased in 2012.
