With exactly one year gap between announcements, the "Sony Xperia Z3" may be expected to be inferior to the recently released "LG Nexus 5X". However, it turns out that the "Sony Xperia Z3" can still compete even with the newly released smartphones, and these two phones have more in common than you would imagine. But the one year gap definitely gave the "LG Nexus 5X" an edge when it comes to new technology that the "Sony Xperia Z3" may not have been ready for.

However, despite the similar dimensions, the "LG Nexus 5X" is lighter with 136 g weight, compared to 152 g weight of the "Sony Xperia Z3". The heaviness of the Z3 is probably explained by the phone's additional protection that made it dust and water resistant (1.5 meters, 30 minutes). The "LG Nexus 5X" on the other hand has a fingerprint sensor that the "Xperia Z3" doesn't have.

The "LG Nexus 5X" uses a capacitive touch screen with the same 5.2 inch display and 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution that the "Xperia Z3" has. However, the Nexus 5X is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, oleophobic coating.

"Sony Xperia Z3" is powered by Snapdragon 801 and it uses a Quad core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU. The "LG Nexus 5X" on the other hand is powered by Snapdragon 808 and it uses a Quad core 1.44 GHz A53 and a dual core 1.82 GHz Cortex A57 CPU.

As for the operating systems of the two phones, the Nexus 5X runs the latest Android version (6.0 Marshmallow). Marshmallow and Nexus 5X were introduced together, which explains why the phone is lucky enough to be running the latest Android version. Marshmallow is still yet to arrive to other smartphones. The Xperia Z3 on the other hand comes with an earlier version of Android (v4.4.4 KitKat), upgradable to Lollipop, and is also planned to be upgraded to Marshmallow.

The "Sony Xperia Z3" has a 16/32 GB internal memory that is expandable to up to 128 GB through a microSD slot. Meanwhile, the "Nexus 5X" has no microSD slot and also comes with 16/32 GB internal storage. Z3 has a bigger RAM of 3 GB while the 5X just comes with 2 GB RAM.

"Xperia Z3" wins the primary camera department with is 20.7 MP rear cam. The "Nexus 5X" comes with a 12.3 MP rear camera, which isn't so bad at all. Z3 comes with autofocus and LED flash while the 5X comes with laser auto focus and dual LED flash.

For the front cameras, the Nexus 5X has a better one with its 5 MP front snapper. The Xperia Z3 only has a 2.2 MP front camera.

The Xperia Z3 comes with an FM Radio with RDS while the "Nexus 5X" do not have this feature. The Z3 uses a microUSB v2.0 connector while the 5X uses a Type C 1.0 reversible connector.

"Sony Xperia Z3" uses a Li Ion 3100 mAh battery with Quick Charge capability (60% in 30 minutes), while the "LG Nexus 5X" uses a Li Po 2700 mAh battery.

"Sony Xperia Z3" comes in five colors - White, Black, Copper, Purple, and Silver Green. The "LG Nexus 5X" on the other hand has three colors - Carbon, Ice, and Quartz.

"Sony Xperia Z3" and "LG Nexus 5X" Price, Verdict

The "Xperia Z3" costs around 400 Euro while the "Nexus 5X" is at around 480 Euro. With a lower price, the Z3 is a very good choice. The RAM, camera, and battery make the phone a really good deal. But the "Nexus 5X" should also be given credit to its advancement in operating system and fingerprint technology. But as a whole, it looks like the "Sony Xperia Z3" will still be a good choice even as new models get released.
