Cat Phones has recently launched the Cat S40, a rugged smartphone that is fitted with the most durable exterior and impressive internal specs. Priced at $399, the Cat S40 is described as a modern computer that people can take and operate even in the harshest environments, according to ZDNet.

The new Cat S40 is designed to cater to the growing demographic in the United States that prefers rugged smartphones due to the nature of their profession. Last year, more than 10 million rugged smartphones were sold all over the world.

In a press release by Business Wire, Oliver Schulte, chief executive officer of Bullitt Mobile, said the Cat S40 is a product that will appeal to this market. Adding to the S40's appeal is its device support features from the leading GMS carriers in the U.S., including AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile.

"Too many people - from the average consumer to the 85 million people working in construction globally - are left out-of-pocket due to damaged smartphones. With the refined, rugged design of the S40 we are able to offer a device that looks sleek, runs the latest version of Android and provides the levels of protection needed by those who work outdoors and in challenging environments."

Professional engineer and ZDNet product tester Matthew Miller is slated to test the Cat S40 in the coming weeks. Miller fully understands the need for a durable smartphone in the industry where he belongs.

"As a professional engineer and ship designer, I often find myself out on ship checks crawling through dirty tanks, bilges, and other nasty places. When I am out in the field, a rugged phone or a rugged case is highly desirable," he said.

The new Cat S40 is constructed to be dust-proof and resistant to extreme temperatures. The company claims that the phone can survive multiple drops to concrete surfaces from 6 feet.

The phone is also built with a 4.7" ultra-bright HD screen that allows users to view the phone even while outdoors and under the bright sun. The phone also boasts enhanced audio configurations for crisp sound experience.

Battery talk time is pegged at 18 hours, according to Cat Phone's official product page for the Cat S40. Stand-by time can reach up to 39 hours, an ideal figure for professionals who spend days working on site.
