When the world's smallest hotel, the Hotel Central and Cafe in Copenhagen, Denmark, opened its doors (or rather door!) to the public on June 19, 2013, little did it know that it was going to be super popular. The hotel is booked up for the whole summer, according to several news reports.
"We opened back in June and August is already fully booked. This building is little crazy but it's looking good," Leif Thingtved, owner of the place said to The Daily Mail.
Hotel Central is a 12 meter square room, which once served as home to a shoe repairer who worked in the café below. It remained vacant until 2010, when the owner of the 'room', Leif Thingtved took over the place. Perched atop the city's smallest coffee shop, the room has been done up with a lot of attention and epitomizes space management.
The walls are adorned with numerous pictures of actor Ronnie Barker. Thingtved is a huge fan apparently. A small bathroom is cleverly tucked in one corner of the room. There is a Swedish duvet double bed and the furniture is all vintage. Retro bedside lamps light up the small place. A flat screen and a mini bar are some of its other luxury amenities. There is free Wi-Fi too.
What's more?
'When guests arrive at the hotel fresh flowers, fruit and wine' waits in their room. One can also brew some fresh coffee in the room in the coffee machine. Breakfast is served between 07.00 to 12.00 at Granola Cafe, located just a block away. All of this can be availed for $264 a night.

This might be the first of its kind, being the smallest hotel in the world, but there are hotels that have rooms the size of matchboxes. One hotel accommodates you in its pipes while another shacks you up in a capsule!
