It looks like Halle Berry's divorce with husband Olivier Martinez won't be easy. Both have filed for divorce on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences. The actress didn't seek for any support from him, but the French actor filed a request for spousal support.
On Tuesday, Berry's divorce was announced in public. Their divorce papers have major differences, which could indicate that there could be an unforeseen divorce battle between the former couple.
"It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce," they told Us. "We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children's privacy, as we go through this difficult period," Us Weekly reports.
According to Martinez and Berry's divorce paper obtained by People, the actress seeks no spousal support. She also stated that the cost of raising their child will be equally shared by them. However, her husband is asking for a spousal support from the actress, who has a net worth of $80 million. The 49-year-old "Unfaithful" actor has a reported net worth of $20 million.
Reports claim that the cause of Berry's divorce was due to their underlying misunderstanding on where to settle. She reportedly wants to live in Europe and raise her two children there, but she couldn't start the plan due to her ongoing legal custody battle for Nahla, her daughter from a previous partner, Gabriel Aubry. Martinez reportedly became impatient about it as he allegedly doesn't want to live in Los Angeles.
There are also reports that say that it's Martinez's uncontrollable temper that strained their marriage. Insiders claimed that he has a history of violent temper. At one time, he clashed with Aubry in 2012, and most recently, he threw a baby seat to a LAX airport employee.
Berry was married first to baseball player David Justice and then to R&B singer Eric Benet. The "Dark Tide" actors have two-year-old son Maceo. She also has a daughter from ex partner, Aubry.
