The sequel to 2013's hit indie horror game, Outlast 2, revealed a teaser trailer which features a burning inverted cross and spooky glowing eyes. The award-winning indie horror game is coming, and it looks like it will take a new direction.

As the original game featured a journalist exploring an insane asylum full of violent lunatics, Outlast 2 looks as though it will focus more on religious themes. It is evident in the brief teaser trailer, which shows a cross on fire, and a preacher rambling in the background. As the camera pulls back, it reveals that the cross was actually inverted the entire time.

Game Rant said that while inverted crosses don't really symbolize Satanism, many associate it with the occult and demons, and deem it as anti-Christian nonetheless. In fact, countless horror movies utilize the inverted cross to great effect, as does the Outlast 2 teaser trailer.

It's seen from the trailer that Outlast 2 is going to have a religious impact, possibly dealing with exorcism, cults, or even demons. At the end of the trailer, it reveals a series of glowing eyes hiding in the bushes beyond the cross; none of those belong to humans, so those likely belong to demons.

Religious themes are usually avoided in video games, so many are excited that Red Barrels is willing to explore them in Outlast 2.

Outlast 2 will be played in the Fall of 2016, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

According to the report of PlayStation, as confirmed by Red Barrels last year, Outlast 2 is described as "a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets."

Outlast 2 features a new setting with new characters. David Chateauneuf says, "We have even more surprises and I can't wait to tell you all the ways we're going to make Outlast 2 gamers suffer."

As per the statement of Red Barrels, the first Outlast has "terrified more than 3.5 million players worldwide."
