"The Honor series smartphones feature a proprietary EMUI on Android to deliver a distinguished experience over stock Android. Although it requires effort to add a custom ROM like EMUI on top of Android, Huawei this time had early access to the Android Marshmallow code that enabled the swift development of the new update. The company is one of two Google Nexus partners and had recently launched the Nexus 6P smartphone," International Business Times UK said.

BGR reports that Huawei's Honor 7 will be the first device to receive the Marshmallow update. "Huawei marketing exec Xi Zhao recently let slip that Huawei will soon be releasing a beta release of the update for users to try."

"The Honor 7 was launched in India in October, priced at Rs 22,999. The smartphone features a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 2.2GHz Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 935 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card," the report said, describing the phone's specs and features.

Huawei has yet to announce the update's specific date in February 2016. It is expected that users can access the update via over-the-air (OTA).
