American singer and songwriter Billy Joel has placed one of his Manalapan, Palm Beach mansions on the market with an asking price of $19.95 million. The six-time Grammy Award winner, who's behind a number of the greatest musical hits in modern history, bought the house a year ago for for $11.836 million.
While many speculate that the price hike was caused by renovations, it is uncertain if the remodel actually took place before or after the purchase. The 13,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style offers residents and guests with intracoastal views of both Lake Worth and the Atlantic ocean.
Curbed.com revealed that the house includes seven bedrooms plus two more in the guest house, a swimming pool, vaulted wooden ceiling, and its own dock. The interiors are designed to fuse tropical island living and a touch of European allure.
Joel, whose net worth is around $180 million, according to TheRichest.com, has purchased two properties located to the south of the house earlier this year. Curbed.com reports that Joel bought a huge 23,000-square-foot, four-story mansion that has seven bedrooms, 12 baths, and a garage that houses 30 cars. It also has a secret tunnel that leads to the Atlantic. The other property is an empty, undeveloped lot.
The multi-talented, multi-awarded musician owns the said estate through an LLC called South Ocean Living. The last few years saw Joel very active in the real estate market, selling off a couple of condos in Manhattan, two mansions in Long Island (one of which once belonged to his late mother), and another property in South Beach.
Joel entered the music industry in 1965 and was once the pianist for the Echoes. He soon built a career as a solo artist, penning musical hits and making chart-topping albums, including the multi-platinum "The Stranger," which included the hit song "Just The Way You Are."
