Rumor has it that Korea-based mobile maker Samsung will likely release a cheaper Samsung Galaxy S7 with faster LTE capability. The company's 2016 flagship is expected to be sold cheaper compared with the current Galaxy S6 smartphone, a report from iDigital Times said on Friday.
According to the report, the news comes after details of the company's upcoming 2016 flagship were leaked on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website. It was said that Samsung Galaxy S7 will be released in February next year, coinciding with MWC 2016. It should be noted, however, that the phone's release date remains a speculation unless Samsung issues confirmation.
"The Samsung Galaxy S7 could cost at least 10 percent less than the Samsung Galaxy S6, which sells in the $600 range unlocked for its base 32GB model. Samsung also offers higher-end 64GB and 128GB models, which can approach and exceed $1000, depending on the carrier or vendor," the report said.
Tech Times reports that back in November, Chinese analyst Pan Jiutang said that that Samsung will likely implement a price drop of 10 percent for Samsung Galaxy S7 at launch. Aside from the Galaxy S7, the S7 Edge will be sold cheaper compared with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. However, it is noted that all of these remain to be speculations unless Samsung issues an official statement about the existing rumors.
"This 10 percent cut rumor may hold some credence, since Samsung gave a similar permanent price reduction to the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in August in a move believed to counter Apple's upcoming iPhone 6s. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are expected to be Samsung's first smartphones to ship with the company's interpretation of Apple's iPhone 6s and 6s Plus' 3D Touch feature, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, faster LTE radio, Sony 12 megapixel rear camera and either a Samsung Exynos 8890 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, depending on region," the report said.
