Samsung has been a well embraced name when it comes to many industries including appliances, smart phones, and tablets. The name Samsung has been carved in many tech areas way before smartphones became a thing. With that kind of success that we are seeing, it appears as though suspending any of their products isn't an option.
However, just recently, an article by a Korean news outlet reported that the tech giant will be discontinuing it's line of camera devices. With that rumor, it was said that the camera department employees will be moved around it's other departments such as medical, optical and smartphone departments, probably for development and research so as to improve imaging on the said industries. But whether this is a permanent discontinuation or a temporary one, it's hard to tell.
It actually seems that this suspension only affects the non DSLR cameras of Samsung, as the said source mentions the words 'NX500' and 'mirrorless' all throughout the article. It was also implied that the company intend to provide growth in smartphone cameras and high end digital cameras, which can be interpreted as the company's suggested plans to improve on its DSLR image sensors.
It is possible that Samsung is taking a couple of years away from the digital camera space to review, regroup, and relaunch its devices and marketing plans so as to better compete with camera giants such as Canon, Nikon, Kodak, and Sony. However, according to GSMarena, attempting for a comeback with no market share will be quite tough, so if the company is really to close its camera division, it may actually be for good.
Although the company has brought in numerous great digi cams, its audience may not be as affected with its discontinuation as they would be when Samsung's smartphone line will be the one at risk of a 'phase-out'.
