The "Blackberry Priv" has gained everyone's attention for being the outcast in the line of BB smartphones. It is the first Blackberry device to run a full version of the Android OS. But apart from the different OS, how exactly different is the "Blackberry Priv" compared to its siblings? The only way to find this out is through a thorough comparison between the Android Blackberry and a closest rival sibling, the "Blackberry Passport".

"Blackberry Priv" vs "Blackberry Passport" Design, Body, Display

Both phones carry the iconic Blackberry design of having both a touch screen and a qwerty keypad. The "Blackberry Priv" has a 4 row keyboard while the "Blackberry Passport" comes with a 3 row keyboard.

As for the display type, the "Blackberry Priv" comes with AMOLED screen while the "Blackberry Passport" has an IPS LCD screen. "Blackberry Priv" has a bigger screen of 5.4 inches with 1440 x 2560 resolution and 540 pixels per inch density, all covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. "Blackberry Passport" only has a 4.5 inches screen with 453 PPI and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

"Blackberry Priv" vs "Blackberry Passport" Platform, Memory

As we all know, the "Blackberry Priv" runs Android, specifically Android v5.1.1 Lollipop. The "Blackberry Passport" on the other hand runs the Blackberry OS 10.3, with an available upgrade to v10.3.2. "Blackberry Priv" is powered by Snapdragon 808 with a CPU of Dual-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A57 & quad-core 1.44 GHz Cortex-A53. "Blackberry Passport" on the other hand is powered by Snapdragon 801 with a Quad core 2.26 GHz Krait 400 CPU.

Both of these two Blackberry devices have a 32 GB internal memory and a microSD slot for expansion. The "Blackberry Priv" can be expanded to 200 GB, while the "Blackberry Passport" can cater up to 128 GB external memory. Both Blackberry devices have 3 GB RAM.

"Blackberry Priv" vs "Blackberry Passport" Cameras, Battery

"Blackberry Priv" has an 18 MP rear camera with Schneider-Kreuznach optics, OIS, phase detection autofocus, and a dual tone LED flash. The "Blackberry Passport" on the other hand, has a 13 MP camera with autofocus, OIS, and LED flash. Both these Blackberry devices only have a 2 MP camera.

"Blackberry Priv" comes with a Li Ion 3410 mAh battery while the "Blackberry Passport" uses a Li Ion 3450 mAh battery that can last up to 444 hours on 3G Blackberry standby. For the BB Priv's battery life, our source is yet to run a test on that. Hopefully it has an impressive battery life.

"Blackberry Priv" "Blackberry  Passport" Features, Colors

Both the "Blackberry Priv" and the "Blackberry Passport" come with LTE data support and a WiFi hotspot functionality. The "Blackberry Priv" boasts of it fast battery charging (60% in 30 minutes) and its optional wireless charging ability. The "Blackberry Passport" on the other hand has an FM radio with RDS and it comes with Blackberry services such as the Blackberry Assistant and Blackberry maps.

The "Blackberry Priv" comes in just one color, which is Black - a classic Blackberry color. The "Blackberry Passport" on the other hand has more colors to choose from - Black, Red, White, Silver, and Black & Gold.

"Blackberry Priv" vs "Blackberry Passport" Price, Conclusions

The "Blackberry Priv", as expected, is pricier than its older sibling. The "Blackberry Priv" is priced at around 790 Euro while the "Blackberry Passport" is just at around 520 Euro. The 14 months gap between the two devices clearly allowed for the newer device to be more improved in many ways. The "Blackberry Priv" has a bigger screen with a better display. It's front camera has higher MP and with more features, not to mention that the "Blackberry Priv" also features wireless charging and fast charging functionalities.

However, the "Blackberry Passport" should also be given credit for its slightly bigger battery, more color selections, FM radio, and most of all, more affordable current price. Its 3 GB RAM is also quite impressive considering that the device was launched long before the Priv. During the time of its launch, 3 GB RAM is already a big thing. It is also worth mentioning that both the "BB Priv" and the "BB Passport" have a 2 MP front camera, which is quite not impressive. The "Blackberry Priv" could have improved on that area. A 5 MP front cam may be a more understandable minimum quality. But in a question of which is the best Blackberry, both the "Priv" and the "Passport" have something to offer. But the fact that the "Blackberry Priv" runs Android, it's worth noting that the "Priv" can do more things with its access to the Android Apps.
