Rumor has it that "Resident Evil 7" will run on Unreal Engine 4. It was said that such new technology will provide game developers and players more flexibility in terms of using tools to generally improve the gaming experience. Aside from this, recent rumors suggest that there's a possibility for old characters to return to the game. One of these characters is William Birkin, a report from Master Herald said on Friday.

"And while fans have been quick to start speculating about the possible implications of using Unreal Engine 4 in the new game, realistically there are many possibilities for what the developers could be planning to do, and it's not very easy to say just by looking at the engine nowadays. Unreal Engine 4 is a massive game engine, and it offers a large array of features, some of which won't even make sense in the context of "Resident Evil 7," the report said.

According to the report, the game's old playable character William Birkin may be re-introduced in the game's plot. However, it was stressed that the developer has not yet confirmed nor release any related details about the character. It is expected that Birkin will be one of the villains in the game.

"The word is that William Birkin from Resident Evil 2 is going to make a surprise appearance in Resident Evil 7 and he will be a villain in a boss fight. The lad is considered as the scariest villain in the entire franchise and those who have played Resident Evil 2 can easily recall that moment where they get hit by a wrench when running by the tram car. For us, we would love to see William Birkin again in Resident Evil 7 but the unfortunate thing is that the above is based on rumours. Nothing is for certain until Capcom spills the bean on Resident Evil 7," NSEA Voice reports.
