HTC's new Android phone will be announced March 25, according to the company, which is heralding the event with the slogan "the best will get better."
HTC's UK Twitter account announced the big news, while other sources have said the firm will hold joint events in London and New York that day.
Method to madness
It has been several months since rumors first surfaced regarding the follow up to the One, with its debut coming more than a year after the launch of its predecessors and after this year's Mobile World Congress, which is set to take place later this month in Barcelona.
So why the timing?
One possibility is that HTC is looking to avoid any clash with Samsung's upcoming announcement, which is expected to be the Galaxy S5.
Samsung's flagship phone is on track to attract a great deal of attention in Barcelona, and HTC is probably smart not to try to compete. Peace between the factions will only last so long, however, as the new phones will still have to compete on store shelves long after the Congress has adjourned.
Speculations
There are no technical details from HTC regarding the new device, but that hasn't stopped people from speculating. The screen size for instance, is rumored to offer an additional five inches, although the screen resolution will likely remain as is. A quad-core processor, a Snapdragon 800 is thought to possibly power the unit.
Images showing the lens of the camera on the rear panel of the phone have been leaked and reports suggest that the new HTC smartphone's UltraPixel feature will improve the quality as well as provide the user a clear plus in focus settings.
