Fujitsu unveiled an innovative prototype tablet with tactic sensory technology at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona.
The tablet's touch screen is capable of producing a roof or smooth sensation to reflect whatever image is displayed on the device - a futuristic technology developed by Fujitsu Laboratories.
Ultrasonic Vibrations
Bringing in texture through static electricity generation or touch-screen vibration are not new technologies, but Fujitsu pioneers the use of ultrasonic vibrations to bring tactile sensations through the friction between your finger and the touch screen.
When the ultrasonic vibration on the screen's surface is induced, it will create a layer of air that is high-pressured between the user's finger and the screen's surface. Friction is reduced and a floating effect is created. A rough and bumpy sensation is created by the rapid cycling between low and high friction.
Applications
On the prototype tablet by Fujitsu at MWC, guests can touch an alligator's image as the screen simulates the sensation of its rough skin. The Japanese company plans to market the technology next year, noting several potential applications, such as product catalogs of tablets, devices and other items and services.
Other Announcements
Meanwhile, the Japanese firm announced Monday its plans to come up with the successor of Stylistic S010 smartphone by fall. It is anticipated to support NFC and LTE plus a quad-core in its CPU. Since June 2013, Orange has been selling the company's Stylistic S010 in France.
