Is Iceman back? Val Kilmer has been offered "Top Gun 2" and he could not be more excited about it.
The actor himself broke the news on his Facebook page, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, reports US Weekly. He wrote, "I just got offered #topgun2 - not often you get to say 'yes' without reading the script."
The first "Top Gun" movie was released way back in 2006. Kilmer starred alongside Tom Cruise (Maverick), Kelly McGillis (Charlie), and Anthony Edwards (Goose). Tony Scott, who directed the first film, has already passed away and in recognition to him, Kilmer also had a shout out, saying, "We will all miss Tony Scott one of the kindest gentlemen I've ever met in the film biz, but let's fire up some fighter jets again!!!"
Fans should not get too excited however because the sequel is still a long way off. Despite his uncontained excitement, Kilmer clarified, "This has been talked about for a long long time and being offered a role is very different from doing a role. I jumped the gun with my post. I jumped the topgun... An innocent mistake. It was just such a wonderful phone call with my agent." Fans were confused but excited about the news nonetheless.
There were also reports back in June that Tom Cruise may also be back as Maverick as revealed by Skydance CEO David Ellison to Variety. The entertainment portal added that prior to director Tony Scott's suicide in 2012, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise were already working on the sequel. It halted on Scott's death but a year after; Bruckheimer confirmed that he was still working on the same project.
Val Kilmer, orginally an stage actor, is known for his roles in the cult classic "Real Genius" (1985), as Bruce Wayne/Batman in "Batman Forever" (1995), Simon Templar in "The Saint" (1997).
The fans await your next (confirmed) announcement, Val Kilmer!
