"The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder recently opened up about the hit The CW series, his former co-star Nina Dobrev, and wife Nikki Reed.

In an interview with WGNO ABC, the actor said the he likes the fact that Season 7 now features not only flashbacks but also flash-forwards.

"And what's kinda cool about that is that it mixes it up, and you get to see the characters three years in their future and where they are, and then in the present day," he said.

Meanwhile, Somerhalder also revealed that he lost six pounds in filming Season 7 episode 10. The episode will ultimately focus on the actor's character Damon Salvatore, and fans will learn how Damon came to become who he is.

Some fans might argue that a similar episode or storyline was already featured multiple times on "The Vampire Diaries." However, Somerhalder said that he believes that the upcoming episode will be different from the rest.

In other news, the actor also talked about his marriage to Nikki Reed. Fans have been saying that the couple's relationship is currently on the rocks due to Nina Dobrev, as reported by Celeb Dirty Laundry. However, it doesn't seem to be the case as Ian gushed again about his wife in the interview.

"The most incredible thing, the most unbelievable is having an incredible partner to go through this life with. That's what it's about. I'm so grateful," he said.

Somerhalder also recounted a conversation he had with another man during a United Nations dinner. At that time, the diplomat said, "Behind every great man, is a good woman."

However, Somerhalder countered his statement and said, "Next to every great man is an even better woman. And I stand by that, and I'm so grateful to have that in my life."

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 will continue to feature Somerhalder with his onscreen brother Stefan (Paul Wesley). The show airs Thursday nights on The CW.
