Whether Adele is on board on a secret project that delves on flip phones remains unconfirmed, but rumors of Samsung bringing back the clamshell are rolling harder than ever, thanks to a brief appearance of a Samsung clamshell nestled in the hand of the award-winning siren in her recently released music video "Hello."
The Guardian reports that the South Korea-based tech giant plans to launch a flip phone in the future. The report is based on images published by SamMobile.com purpotedly that of a clamshell version of the Galaxy S6, with the code number SM-W2016.
While the leaked photos were met with substantial amount of suspicion, Sammobile.com still provided readers with the specs of the device, including a two 3.9-inch Super AMOLED displays, each with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels, a numeric (T9) keypad, a 16-megapixel primary camera, and a 5-megapixel secondary camera.
The clamshell's internal construction will reportedly be made of a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. It will run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and the device will have a total weight of 204 grams with dimensions of 120.4 x 61 x 15.1 mm.
If the rumor is true, this will not be the first time that Samsung will launch a clamshell device. Back in July this year, the tech firm released a flip model but limited the units within South Korea. If the firm is indeed releasing a high-end flip phone inspired by Adele, it is still not clear if the device will be shipped to the U.S. and European market.
On the decision why Adele used a Samsung flip phone on her video, the director remarked that "it's so distracting to see an iPhone in a movie."
Hannah Jane Parkinson of The Guardian counts herself as one of the few who wants to get her hands on the rumored clamshell phone by Samsung.
"There was something a little sassy in a flip-phone, and it was perfectly sized for all pockets. Now, phones are so large it's often difficult to sit down if they are being carried in jeans," she said.
